Douche Of The Week 10.4.08

The Winner: The Freedom From Religion Foundation

The Reason: They are suing President Bush, the governor of Wisconsin and other officials over the federal law designating a National Day of Prayer.

MADISON, Wis. —
The nation's largest group of atheists and agnostics is suing President Bush, the governor of Wisconsin and other officials over the federal law designating a National Day of Prayer.

The Freedom From Religion Foundation sued Friday in U.S. district court, arguing that the president's mandated proclamations calling on Americans to pray violates a constitutional ban on government officials endorsing religion.

The day of prayer, held each year on the first Thursday of May, creates a "hostile environment for nonbelievers, who are made to feel as if they are political outsiders," the lawsuit said.

The national proclamation issued this year asked God's blessings on our country and called for Americans to observe the day with appropriate programs, ceremonies and activities.

Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle is named in the suit because he is one of 50 governors who issued proclamations calling for the prayer day. The foundation is based in Madison.

Shirley Dobson, chairwoman of the National Day of Prayer Task Force, and White House press secretary Dana Perino also are named.

The foundation has filed numerous lawsuits in recent years, including one rejected by the U.S. Supreme Court last year that attacked President Bush's faith-based initiative.

The White House and Doyle spokesman Lee Sensenbrenner had no comment on the lawsuit. A message seeking comment from the task force was not returned Friday.

Robocop's Comment:

First off, some semantics.

the president's mandated proclamations calling on Americans to pray violates a constitutional ban on government officials endorsing religion.

The First Amendment bans the government from IMPOSING a state religion. It says nothing about endorsements. They need to read the fraking document.

"hostile environment for nonbelievers, who are made to feel as if they are political outsiders,

Has it happened yet?!?

If you don't want to participate, then don't do it. You won't go to prison. Hell, yes, but prison, no. Just more Libtard nonsense, and a good reason to be called Douche Of The Week.

Douche Of The Week 11.14.07

First a long introduction in the form of this STORY.

Ga. Governor Prays for Rain at Capitol

ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue stepped up to a podium outside the state Capitol on Tuesday and led a solemn crowd of several hundred people in a prayer for rain on his drought-stricken state.

"We've come together here simply for one reason and one reason only: To very reverently and respectfully pray up a storm," Perdue said after a choir provided a hymn.

Georgia and its neighboring states are caught in a drought that threatens public water supplies. Perdue has ordered water restrictions, launched a legal battle against the release of water from federal reservoirs and appealed to President Bush.

"It's time to appeal to him who can and will make a difference," Perdue told the crowd.

A church choir belted out "What a Mighty God We Serve" and "Amazing Grace" as a keyboardist swayed to the rhythm. While preachers spoke, worshippers chanted "amen," and some stood with eyes closed and arms outstretched.

"God, we need you," Perdue said. "We need rain."

The hourlong event was billed as an interfaith ceremony but only three Protestant ministers joined Perdue, who is a Baptist, and Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle.

Nearby, some 20 demonstrators from the Atlanta Freethought Society staged a protest against the holding of a religious observance at the seat of state government. Police moved them when they cordoned off the streets before the event, and none were in sight at the end of the service.

Meteorologists said earlier this week there was a slight possibility of rain Tuesday, with some more rain in the forecast Wednesday. After that, little rain was predicted for the rest of the week. The rainfall deficit in Athens and Atlanta is 16 inches, according to the National Weather Service.

"I believe in miracles," declared Pastor Maurice Watson of Beulahland Bible Church. "How about you?"

Now in case any of you are unaware, the State Of Georgia has been in a major drought situation for quite sometime. The Governor of Georgia decided to appeal to his boss, The Lord, to help out with the situation. He did this out of the state capitol building, and invited all with numerous faiths to this service. This story was so obscured that I was not even aware of this prayer service until today.

This week, I am on vacation. The downside to vacations where travel is not involved is that the television gets to work overtime. My wife, Debs is into this show called "The View." Not exactly the show a man would watch on purpose, except when Rosie got spanked by Elisabeth Hasselbeck a couple of months ago.

Today, I got to accidentally see this show. Whoopi Goldberg brought up the story about the Georgia prayer service. Almost immediately, resident socialist Joy Behar

got into a "separation of Church and State rant." Whoopi, to her credit, pointed out that this prayer service was not conducted in the state building. Comrade Joy then shifted to the opinion that a governor should not be practicing prayer. Co-Host Sherri Sheperd pointed out Georgia's drought situation, and that no harm would be done appealing to the Highest Authority. Comrade Joy then shifted her anti-religious attack to focus on science versus religion. Now for the ballbuster: Sherri then pointed out that rain was now predicted in Georgia.

Comrade Joy, now resembling a clubbed baby seal, finished off her rant with her "religious background", and restating her flawed opinion that science will always prevail over religion. Now she was out of ammo. Beaten like a road kill, the topic of the show then changed.

In case you have not guess it yet, this week's "Douche Of The Week" award goes to Joy Behar. Reasons Cited:

>If she indeed had a religious background, she sure as hell forgot where she came from. We can all guess where she is going.

>She also forgot that a governor, president, judge, etc.. are all human beings, WITH a soul. There is nothing wrong with asking the ultimate Boss for help.

>She is an Atheist and a hypocrite.

Sorry for the long introduction to the winner, but it had to be done. Enjoy!
