CLEBURNE - A man is accused of making his 12-year-old son live outside because the boy wouldn't follow the father's rules.

After receiving reports that a boy had been living outside at least four days and nights, Johnson County deputies went to the home near Cleburne. They reported finding the child under a dilapidated travel trailer, and he was covered with fleas and insect bites.

Paul Scott Schmidtke, 38, was arrested Sunday and charged with endangering a child, which carries a maximum penalty of two years in a state jail. He was released Monday from the Johnson County jail on $100,000 bond.

Authorities are pursuing charges against the boy's stepmother, Sheriff Bob Alford said.

The boy, whose name was not released because he is a minor, was placed in the custody of Child Protective Services.

The boy told authorities that he was fed peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, which made him sick, and drank from a water hose.

Schmidtke told deputies that he made the boy stay outside because he did not want to live by his rules, Alford said, declining to elaborate on what those rules were.

Ok, why make your kid suffer over a long period of time just for misbehaving? Why risk his life? Ever hear of grounding? At least he is safe in the house when you are trying to prove your point. And a twelve year old is not too old for a spanking. What Mr. Schmidtke did to his son cannot even be done to convicted criminals. For placing the rights of his son below that of convicts, Paul Schmidtke earns this week's "Douche Of The Week" title.

I was so pissed when I watch this on the news. Thank God a neighbor woman stepped in. Only 2 year maximum sentence?!?!? Not long enough IMHO.

This is the man's son, not one of his "men" from the military. I really wish they would leave me in a room with him for a minute or two. :D
