Fun Monday 10.01.07

I know, I know, it's not Monday yet. However, I have no idea when I am going to be home tomorrow, so I am making my Fun Monday Post right now.

Robin is hosting this week's Fun Monday.

Shoes tell a lot about a person and we wanna delve deeply into your soul sole. Photograph your favorite pair--or pairs--of shoes and tell us a little about why they're near and dear to your toes heart (I can't wait to see how Swampy ties this in to Breast Cancer Awareness!). Follow in Jenny's footsteps and make a foot-family portrait...show us your baby bronzed booties...let us see the shoes YOU HAD TO HAVE (but have never worn)...or all those grotesquely dyed-to-match formerly white satin bridemaid's shoes that were worn ONCE...the reinforced steel-toe boots that saved your big toe from being hacked off in that industrial "accident"...or, just take pictures of your nekkid feet--gnarly bunions, twin toes, or perfectly OPI-pedicured tootsFunmondaylogo_2ies.

OK, I will not be able to follow this to a tee for two reasons: First, no digital camera in this house. Second reason, see the first reason.

Instead, I will display factory pictures of the shoes I have. That should say something about my soul. BTW: Most of my "shoes" are really boots, so I hope this is ok.

Shoes I Have

First a fair warning. Since every occupation I have had involved wearing black shoes, you will notice that black is the color of most of my shoes. I wear all of these on, or off the job.

Corcoran Jump Boots-Model 1500

I actually have two pairs of these. My first pair sits in a foot locker in New York along with my other Army stuff. After I completed Jump School in 1989, the first thing to do was to acquire a pair of Corcoran Jump boots. They kind of served as a status symbol for those of us lucky enough to earn a parachutist badge. I kept those suckers with a mirror polish job. Many moons later, I discovered that I still liked to shine the boots I wear to work. NOTHING shines better than these boots. They will last awhile too. They a comfortable as hell once they were broken in.

Corcoran 2 Field Boot-Model 1525

These are a modern update to the jump boots I already have. Instead of a nice solid leather all around, these have a softer leather for comfort, with exception to the toe cap, and heal counter, which could still be spit shined. They also have a padded collar, and a Vibram sole to complete the update. They are more comfortable than my jump boots, but don't look as good, or hold the same sentimental value.

Corcoran Machs

These duty boots were standard issue for Onondaga County, New York back in the day. The nice thing about being issued two pairs of these a year is the fact that they don't wear out fast. I have horded, I mean, collected a bunch of these, and will break them out of the boxes as I wear them out.

Justin Work Boots

Ever buy something because the price was too right to pass them up? I was looking online for a pair of western boots for my daughter when these boots screamed at me that they were only $26. I showed Debs, and she told me that I have better buy them. Well, I would not like to disappoint the lady.**LOL**

511 ATACS

My mother sent these to me for a present, and they are meant for duty use. These are also my very first pair of zipper boots, and they look and feel just fine.

Sketcher Oxfords

Again, another present from mommy. I wear these at work, casually, and even in church.

Bates Ultralite Extremes

I needed a pair of waterproof/non-insulated boots for work, so I tried these out. They are lite, but were only waterproof for the first two storms I was in. Gortex liner my ass. Anyway, I treat them heavily with waterproof leather preservative to keep my feet dry.

Matterhorn Field Boots

Got these in the military. Yes, they are waterproof. But they also have 400 grams of Thinsulate, which is something not needed in Texas, even in winter. At 18 years old, these boots are still going strong.

Well, there you have it. These are what encase my feet every day, on, or off the job. I hope this says something good about my soul.**LOL**

Hello Robocop,
I usually post my Fun Monday on Sunday. Wait, you jump out of airplanes? On a regular basis? I am glad to see that you have the proper footwear to protect your feet. Happy Fun Monday on Sunday.

I see these boots on a regular basis.
You need cowboy boots!

MJD:

I made 5 jumps in 1989, just enough to get my wings. Thanks for the visit:)

Debs:

I am working on getting western boots. You even know what two I have in mind.

This post reminds me of a quote by Henry Ford, "You can have any color you like so long as it's black"

I used to wear my son's military boots back in you younger days. They look heavy and confining, but surprisingly they're quite comfortable.

I loved my combat boots. They never saw combat during my tour, but boy were they comfy.

I like all your shiny black boots!!

I must say: I love your wife. Oh, and my husband would kill for your boot collection.

What else could we expect from Robocop??

And yet, I am strangely afraid of someone who would wear so many black boots...but don't forget the words of Lt. Dan - "DRY SOCKS!"

That's some collection and black is good I think half the shoes in my wardrobe are black not that I actually showed any of these!

They're all black. I like them all!

Robinella:

None of the boots I posted on this blog saw combat. Those boots are also in the same foot locker in NY.

Kaytabug:

I find polishing my boots almost as relaxing as shooting.

Anglophile:

Thanks. I love my wife too. And tell your hubby it takes time to make even this small collection, unless you win the lottery.

tiggerlane:

Just for that, I will buy a pair of brown jump boots before I die**LOL**

chrisb:

Come one, show them. Be bold.

lisa:

I am glad you like them. Someday, I might modify my off duty wardrobe to go with combat boots.

crown princess:

Where do you work corrections? As for boot history, maybe someday I'll do a history on all the boots sitting in my footlocker in NY.

a.m.a.z.i.n.g

again, I say a.m.a.z.i.n.g

A man who shows off his shoes/boots.
(my hubby shines his shoes, too. I think the military rubs off on a spit-shine guy)

Black is good.

Pamela:

Nothing wrong with showing off what I have**LOL**

"Ever buy something because the price was too right to pass them up?"

Ummm, have you been talkin' to my husband???

GLAD you played along today, and I'm impressed you shared some of those little details. I'm not a fan of laces, so these would just about do me in.

I think your shoes say a lot about you...a lot of GOOD things!

Wow, you have a lot of boots. My sister is an enforcement officer for Environment Canada and she wears a lot of boot similar to yours. I don't have any of those boots. I have a pair of winter boots for snow stuff, and a short pair that are 10 years old for going to town in. I think the thinsulate has worn out in them, because they are no warmer than my running shoes.

Debs said...

Hey Boot Man I tagged for a meme. If you don't do it, I won't let you shine my boots. :P

Ok I will because black polish does NOT come off my aida when I am cross stitching. :P

I like all those boots -

I used to wear something similar for work (had to have steel-toed, so bought what I thought was "cool"). They were comfortable - but took FOREVER lacing up some days.

Robin:

I hate the time it takes to lace as well, but so far, my zipper boots do not provide me with full ankle support.

Dawn:

Well made boots can last a very long time. My 18 year old Matterhorns prove it, along with your going to town boots.

Karmyn r:

Believe it or not, I have never worn a pair of steel toed boots. I am going to buy a pair of 20 hole Grinders which have steel toes.
